The Powers of Compounding

investments, pensions. Posted on Thursday, May 15, 2014.

At Searing Point, we believe that consumption, driven by society’s need for instant gratification is the primary impediment to creating wealth. It becomes practically impossible to save for the future. “I’ll be long under the ground I we hear you say,” but remember life is a marathon not a sprint. Are not the years from 50 through 90 as important as those from 10 through 50? You can read vast amounts of material online detailing the powers of compounding, often referred to as the eighth wonder of the world. Fortunately, it is possible to build or accumulate wealth on a pre-tax basis, based on legislation as it exists today in Ireland.

There a multitude of actions one may take to preserve and grow wealth, even taking into account the occasional slip and liquidity event. From an unknown source, but widely available online we present the following little parable.

There was the king who held a chess tournament among the peasants and asked the winner what he wanted as his prize. The peasant, in apparent humility, asked only that a kernel of wheat be placed for him on the first square of his chessboard, two kernels on the second, four on the third and so forth. The king fell for it and had to import grain from Argentina for the next 700 years. Eighteen and a half million trillion kernels, or enough, if each kernel is a quarter-inch long (which may not be; I’ve never seen wheat in its pre-English-muffin form), to stretch to the sun and back 391,320 times. That was nothing more than one kernel compounding at a 100 percent square for 64 squares. Accordingly, remember the old adage, “He who understands interest – earns it, he who does not understand interest – pays it.”

At Searing Point, we can assist you implement plans to provide for your future, including but not limited to the traditional financial plans involving pensions etc. Please contact Andrew Rittweger for a consultation – and we can demonstrate the power of compounding, for a little sacrifice!

Searing Point are recruiting talent

company news. Posted on Tuesday, April 15, 2014.

At Searing Point we are recruiting talent. Now we should emphasise that we absolutely discriminate against those who do not possess certain characteristics or who do not share our business ethos. We believe that it is simply much easier to work with people who are like minded and who we like.

So if you think you would like to work at Searing Point, then you are more than likely someone who cares about people and who wishes to provide the very best service possible to our clients. This means you try to walk in their shoes, you try to figure out what it is that keeps them awake at night, you will try and anticipate challenges they may face and you will get to work early at protecting them from those challenges. You will not have the answers, but you will be tenacious in trying to make a difference, and many times you will.

Who are we looking for?

You are a responsible sort of person, you are a team player, you are accessible, full of integrity and above all you are respectful. Of course you have no problem executing core competency items and you are pretty cool with the MS Office applications. Believe it or not, although you are applying for a numbers based job, you are an excellent English student. You can communicate brilliantly.

We are looking for you, and would love you to join our team. We need qualified accountants who exhibit the traits above and we also need trainee accountants who we would love to mentor and set off on a splendid career please contact us
